An operating system is an important part 1 each computer system.  A computer system can be divided into four components - the hardware, the operating system, the application programs, and the users. The hardware - the central processing unit (CPU), the memory, and the input/output (I/O) devices - provides an basic computing resources. The application programs such as word processors, spreadsheet, compilers, and web browsers-define the ways in which these resources are used in solve the computing problems of the users. The operating system controls and coordinates the use of the hardware among various applications programs for the various users.
